How we rate the price (Pase Score)

The Pase Score is a simple, honest price rating: it tells you whether a listing is priced well compared with similar cars currently for sale in Latvia. It is statistics, not an expert opinion — below we explain exactly how we work it out and where the limits are.

Three rating bands

We only show a Pase Score when the price is at least good — there is no "bad" band, we simply do not show one. A higher band means a bigger gap below the average price of comparable cars.

👍
Good price
70+

The price is noticeably below the average for similar cars — worth a closer look.

🔥
Very good
80+

Clearly below the market for comparable cars — a rare, attractive price.

🏆
Excellent
90+

One of the best prices in its group. Act quickly, but still check the car.

How it works — 3 steps

1

Scan

We collect active car listings in Latvia from SS.lv and pull each one’s key facts — make, model, year, mileage and price.

2

Validate

For each car we find its comparables: same make and model, year ±2, mileage ±30,000 km. If there are too few comparable cars, the car stays unrated — better than guessing.

3

Compute

We compare the asking price to that group’s average. A price meaningfully below the average earns a higher score; a suspiciously low price is capped, not celebrated.

What goes into the score

The score is built from a handful of clear factors — not hundreds of secret criteria. Price against the market is the main one; the rest refine it.

  • Price versus the average of comparable cars (the main signal)
  • How close the model year is (±2 years)
  • How close the mileage is (±30,000 km)
  • How many comparable cars we found (more = more confident)
  • Service or ownership history mentioned in the ad
  • Warning signs in the ad text
  • Equipment level
  • A scam guard on too-good-to-be-true prices

Honest about the limits

It is statistics, not an expert opinion

The Pase Score is based purely on listing prices and data. We do not see the car in person, run diagnostics or check its condition. It is a good starting point, not a substitute for an inspection by a mechanic.

Some cars are not rated

When there are too few comparable cars on the market (a rare model, an unusual year or mileage), we show no score rather than guess. We only assign a named band when the comparison is on a confident model-level basis — a broader, brand-only comparison is weaker, so we do not celebrate it.

One source today

For now we compare within SS.lv, the largest car marketplace in Latvia. We do not claim to aggregate dozens of websites or official registers; the rating is only as good as the listings available.

A low price is not the same as a good deal

A price that is too good often hides a problem — a scam, damage or wrong data. That is why suspiciously low prices are capped rather than put in the top band. Always check the VIN, history and condition before buying.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Pase Score mean?

It shows how good a price is compared with similar cars in Latvia right now. A higher band (Good → Very good → Excellent) means a bigger gap below the average price of comparable cars.

Why do some cars have no Pase Score?

If there are not enough comparable cars to make a confident comparison, we do not show a score. Showing nothing is better than guessing.

Does the lowest price always get the highest score?

No. A suspiciously low price is capped, because it often signals a scam or hidden damage. A genuinely good — not unbelievably low — price earns a high score.

Does the Pase Score guarantee the car is good?

No. It only rates the price, not the car’s condition. Always check the VIN, history and condition before buying.
