⚠️ Known issues

  • Cooling-system plastics, VANOS seals and ABS modules are the classic age items; timing-chain guides on V8s. Rust inspection is mandatory.

Options to check

  • Xenon, working cluster pixels; prioritise cooling-system and suspension receipts over trim level.

⚠️ Known issues

  • M57 diesels can ingest swirl flaps (many cars have them deleted — ask); iDrive CCC units fail; check gearbox service history and cluster pixels.

Options to check

  • Adaptive xenon, comfort seats, documented swirl-flap and gearbox-oil work; on E61 wagons check tailgate wiring and rear air suspension.

⚠️ Known issues

  • N47/N57 diesel timing chains sit at the rear of the engine — replacement is costly, so chain receipts add real value; N20 petrol chain guides pre-2015.

Options to check

  • Soft-close doors, HUD, adaptive cruise; on xDrive check transfer-case oil service; F11 rear air suspension condition.

⚠️ Known issues

  • Generally robust; B47/B57 diesels are mature. On 530e/545e ask for charging history and a battery capacity report; check software recalls are done.

Options to check

  • Driving Assistant Plus, laser lights, comfort seats, soft-close; verify xDrive transfer-case service on higher-mileage cars.

i5 xDrive40Electric290 kW81.2 kWhAWD2024–…

⚠️ Known issues

  • Too new for a used-market pattern — treat it as a nearly-new purchase.

Options to check

  • Verify warranty transfer and that the i5 battery certificate is included.

🔎 How to identify the real version

The badge proves nothing — the kW figure in the registration certificate defines the version. A G30 520d is 140 kW; a 530d is 195 kW.

How to verify

  • Match the registration-certificate kW against the generation table (e.g. F10 520d 135 kW vs 530d 190 kW).
  • Decode the VIN for the factory engine and options.

What badge fakery looks like

  • A "530d"/"535d" badge on a 520d is the most common swap in this class; M aero kit does not make an M5.

Options that move the price

  • Comfort seats, HUD, soft-close, Driving Assistant, xDrive — verify via VIN and documents, not listing text.
📋 How to verify equipment via VIN and a history report

👉 Next step: Find the listing kW in the generation table before calling. A mismatch is your first question.

🔋 Real range vs WLTP

Electrified 5 Series: G30 530e (9.2 kWh until 2019, then 12 kWh) and 545e (12 kWh), G60 530e and the electric i5 (81.2 kWh). WLTP range is a lab figure — real range is lower in winter and on the highway.

  • Ask for a written battery capacity report; for the i5 the battery certificate should be included.
  • Request a full-charge photo with predicted range on screen and confirm all charging cables are present.

👉 Next step: Request the battery capacity report in writing before viewing.
