CSDD car check - what you can learn for free
CSDD (Road Traffic Safety Directorate) offers a free way to check technical data of any car registered in Latvia. This guide explains how to use it and what its limitations are.

What is CSDD?
CSDD is the Latvian government agency responsible for road traffic safety, vehicle registration and driver licenses.
After signing in to e.csdd.lv, you can check the available data about a vehicle registered in Latvia free of charge.
How to do a CSDD check?
The check is simple and takes just a few minutes, but you must sign in to e-CSDD first:
- 1Go to e.csdd.lv/tadati/
Visit the CSDD portal and select 'Vehicle data'
- 2Enter registration number or VIN
You can search by Latvian license plate or full VIN code
- 3Analyze results
Review technical data, inspection history and mileage records. A lower later reading is a serious warning; low annual use such as 5,000 km is only contextual and should be checked against service records.
What does CSDD show?
CSDD check provides detailed information about car technical parameters and history in Latvia:

CSDD mileage-history check
After you sign in, e-CSDD shows the date and odometer reading from every Latvian roadworthiness inspection free of charge. Search by registration plate; the owner's personal details are not displayed.
| What to compare | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Odometer readings at consecutive inspections | Mileage must rise over time. A later reading below an earlier one means the recorded odometer value has been rolled back or replaced. |
| Annual increase | About 5,000 km a year may be normal for a lightly used car. Treat it only as a contextual signal alongside the car's age, the owner's usage and service records. |
| Gaps in the history | Two or more years without an inspection record may hide use outside Latvia or an odometer change. |
| Inspection result and encumbrances | Assess a failed inspection, lien or seizure together with the seller's documents, not just the current odometer. |
If the dashboard mileage is below the latest CSDD record, do not buy the car until the seller supplies a verifiable explanation and supporting documents.
CSDD history mainly starts when the car is registered in Latvia. Limited mileage data from the Netherlands, Estonia and Slovakia may be available for some vehicles from 2021; check other pre-import history with a VIN report and service records.

While CSDD is a great starting point, it has significant limitations that can lead to expensive mistakes:
Foreign data is only partly available
CSDD mainly shows history registered in Latvia. Some vehicles presented or registered in Latvia since 2021 may include mileage data from the Netherlands, Estonia and Slovakia; inspections, owners and accidents from other countries are generally not shown.
No accident history
CSDD doesn't show if car was in an accident, damage amount or if it was written off.
No archive photos
You can't see what the car looked like before - before possible repair or repaint.
No stolen car check
CSDD doesn't check international stolen vehicle databases.
Why CSDD alone is not enough?
Many used cars sold in Latvia are imported. CSDD mainly shows Latvian history and limited mileage data from the Netherlands, Estonia and Slovakia, so check the remaining pre-import period with service records and a VIN report.
