Latvia Vehicle Tax Calculator
There is no single flat amount: for a car first registered in 2021 or later, tax is based on WLTP CO₂; for 2009–2020 it is based on NEDC CO₂. If a 2021+ car has no WLTP record but NEDC is available, the NEDC rate applies. Only when no CO₂ data is available, and for 2005–2008 cars, are the gross-weight, engine-displacement, and maximum-power rates added together; older cars use gross weight. A fully electric car pays €0. Source: Vehicle Operation Tax and Company Car Tax Law (checked 2026-09-27).

How is vehicle tax calculated in Latvia?
Vehicle operation tax in Latvia depends on the registration year and technical data. Newer vehicles are taxed based on CO₂ emissions, while older ones are taxed based on weight, engine size, and power.
Vehicles after 2009
Vehicles from 2021 onward use WLTP CO₂; if WLTP is missing but NEDC is available, the NEDC rate applies. Vehicles from 2009–2020 use NEDC CO₂, while the combined method applies only when no CO₂ data is available.
Vehicles before 2009
For 2005–2008 vehicles, the gross-weight, engine-size, and power rates are added together; older vehicles use gross weight.
