At CSDD pay the €110 natural-resources tax, €41.88 registration set, €19.25 unit-number comparison, €36.95 first inspection and the operation tax for the rest of the year. CSDD tariffs checked 27 September 2026; operation-tax rule checked 28 September 2026.
For a vehicle previously registered abroad, complete the first Latvian inspection within five days after registration in Latvia. After a visual assessment, CSDD may grant Latvian road-use permission without technical control if a valid authorisation from the previous EU, EEA or Swiss registration country and its inspection data can be verified through the European Commission platform. Otherwise technical control is required within that deadline. Registration alone does not permit driving: valid road-use permission and OCTA insurance are required.
If buying from a licensed EU dealer and receiving a VAT invoice — VAT is already paid and doesn't need to be paid again in Latvia.
If buying from a private seller or dealer not charging VAT — you must pay 21% VAT in Latvia on the car purchase price.
Always check the car's VIN number before purchase. Many cars in Germany have hidden damage history.
TÜV is Germany's mandatory technical inspection. If TÜV has expired, the car may be technically unsafe.
A lower price in Germany doesn't always mean a good deal. Add transport, taxes and other fees.
Use licensed car carriers with insurance. Check reviews and experience.
