How to choose an electric car under €15,000
1. The battery matters more than the mileage
Ask for a battery health (state of health) report or a diagnostic. Two cars with the same mileage can differ both in charging speed and in how far they really go on one charge.
2. Real winter range is lower
Cold weather cuts the distance on one charge. Compare the claimed range with your daily route and keep a margin; there is more in our guide to electric cars in winter.
3. Check the charging connector and power
Older models may have a different charging port or a lower AC charging power. Make sure the car can charge where you will charge it: at home, at work or on the road.
4. Make sure the battery belongs to the car
Some electric cars had their battery leased separately. When you buy, find out whether the battery is yours and whether the seller hands over all the charging cables.
5. Check the remaining warranty
The manufacturer battery warranty often runs longer than the rest of the car warranty. Find out whether it passes to the next owner and on what terms.

Can you buy a used electric car for up to €15,000 in Latvia?
As of 4 October 2026, 24 used electric cars priced up to €15,000 are for sale in Latvia. The median asking price is €12,498; most are 2014–2021 model years. Is a used electric car under €15,000 worth buying?
If your daily trips are short and you can charge at home or at work, it can pay off. The biggest risk is the condition of the battery, so do not decide without a diagnostic.
How is buying a used electric car different from a petrol one?
There are fewer mechanical parts, but you must check the battery, the charging system and the software. Also see how the car charges on fast and slow chargers.
Is an electric car under €15,000 suitable for winter in Latvia?
It is, if the range margin is large enough. In winter the distance on one charge is shorter, so check the real range and the pre-heating function.
